Example: Calculate Net Present Value
In this example, the pit_activities demonstration data set is used to generate an NPV based on a five percent annualised discounted rate.
- Open the pit_activities scenario.
- In the Define Geology > Models tab, click the User parameters tab.
- In the User parameters data grid, click Insert.
- In the Name field, type UNIT_MINING_COST.
- In the Type field, select Numeric.
- In the Weight by field, select Mass.
- Click the User calculations tab.
- In the User calculations data grid, click Insert.
- In the Name field, type MINING_COST.
- In the Expression field, type and use the selection list to write the following formula: PROD_MASS*UNIT_MINING_COST.
- Click Insert.
- In the Name field, type DISCOUNTED_MINING_COST.
- In the Expression field, type and use the selection list to write the following formula: MINING_COST / POW(1.05, SCHEDULE_DAYS/365).
- Click Setup Schedule, and then click the Parameters tab.
- In the Parameters data grid, click Insert.
- In the Locations field, select bench_235.
- In the Parameter field, select UNIT_MINING_COST.
- In the Value field, type 10.
- Click Create Schedule, and then click the Create Schedule button.
- When the schedule is complete, click Add report and select Custom.
- In the Series data grid, click Insert.
- In the Value field, select MASS.
- In the Movement field, select Removed.
- In the Production field, select bench_265.
- Click Insert.
- In the Value field, select MINING_COST.
- In the Movement field, select Removed.
- In the Production field, select bench_265.
- Click Insert.
- In the Value field, select DISCOUNTED_MINING_COST.
- In the Movement field, select Removed.
- In the Production field, select bench_265.
- Click OK.
