Example: Calculate Net Present Value

In this example, the pit_activities demonstration data set is used to generate an NPV based on a five percent annualised discounted rate.

1. Open the pit_activities scenario.
2. In the Define Geology > Models tab, click the User parameters tab.
3. In the User parameters data grid, click Insert.

A row is added to the data grid.

4. In the Name field, type UNIT_MINING_COST.
5. In the Type field, select Numeric.
6. In the Weight by field, select Mass.



7. Click the User calculations tab.
8. In the User calculations data grid, click Insert.

A row is added to the data grid.

9. In the Name field, type MINING_COST.
10. In the Expression field, type and use the selection list to write the following formula: PROD_MASS*UNIT_MINING_COST.



11. Click Insert.

Another row is added to the data grid.

12. In the Name field, type DISCOUNTED_MINING_COST.
13. In the Expression field, type and use the selection list to write the following formula: MINING_COST / POW(1.05, SCHEDULE_DAYS/365).



14. Click Setup Schedule, and then click the Parameters tab.
15. In the Parameters data grid, click Insert.

A row is added to the data grid.

16. In the Locations field, select bench_235.
17. In the Parameter field, select UNIT_MINING_COST.
18. In the Value field, type 10.



19. Click Create Schedule, and then click the Create Schedule button.

The schedule runs.

20. When the schedule is complete, click Add report and select Custom.

The Customise Report form opens.

21. In the Series data grid, click Insert.

A row is added to the data grid.

22. In the Value field, select MASS.
23. In the Movement field, select Removed.
24. In the Production field, select bench_265.
25. Click Insert.

Another row is added to the data grid.

26. In the Value field, select MINING_COST.
27. In the Movement field, select Removed.
28. In the Production field, select bench_265.
29. Click Insert.

Another row is added to the data grid.

30. In the Value field, select DISCOUNTED_MINING_COST.
31. In the Movement field, select Removed.
32. In the Production field, select bench_265.



33. Click OK.

The report is displayed in the Dashboard.
